Topic outline

  • IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES

Within SUMP-PLUS, the development of an Implementation Strategy is comprised of two parts:

    * Part A, Implementation Planning. The city is here tasked with developing an Implementation Plan. To do so, it following four different steps, namely (i) specifies core measure packages of both core and supporting measures, (ii) analyses each measure package to build temporal sequences of measures, (iii) develops a programme timeline, and (iv) explores scope for the spatial clustering of measures.

    * Part B, Implementation Management. Within this part, a flexible set of organisational approaches for managing measure implementation is developed. This involves three steps for a city, namely (i) developing delivery structures and processes, (ii) integrating projects with strategic mobility plans, and (iii) scanning for and leveraging ‘windows of opportunity.

More information about the importance of Implementation Strategies, some examples for the different steps, and a related assignment to help you develop a Strategy for your city can be found below, as well as part of the “Introductory webinar” section of Course 2 “Enhancing SUMPs through more tailored implementation strategies.”
